Policies

Rules aren’t our favorite either, but they keep things running smooth so we need to keep a few of them around. Library policies are established by the Board of Trustees and are reviewed yearly.

MPLS follows the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights and their statements on the Freedom to Read and the Freedom to View.

Books

Books may be borrowed for three weeks (21 days). They can be renewed once at the circulation desk, over the phone or through email unless someone else has put a hold on the item.

Getting a Library Card

To obtain a free MPLS card please present your application and proof of identity and current WV mailing address. If your valid driver’s license or state ID has your current mailing address that’s all you need. If your address has changed, please bring an additional item such as car registration, checkbook, or piece of mail from the last 30 days. Digital documents will also be accepted.

Loan periods

Books and audiobooks checkout for 21 days and can be renewed once, if no one has placed a hold on the materials. Certain test preparation materials require a cash or check deposit to checkout, a full refund is made when the items are returned.

DVDs can be borrowed for 7 days and cannot be renewed.

Renewals

Books, music and audiobooks can be renewed once at the circulation desk, over the phone or through email unless someone else has put a hold on the item.

DVDs may not be renewed.

Holds

You may place a hold on items from any WVLN library. Requested items from other Morgantown Public Library System branches or WVLN member libraries may take up to a week to make it to your requested pick up location.

Inter-Library Loan

Still can’t find what you’re looking for? We’re happy to borrow it from another library, just ask! This service is free unless the lending library charges us a fee to borrow their materials.
