Twenty-six-year-old Nathan Evans started the trend on TikTok  by posting a video of him singing a song called “The Wellerman.” Now we just can’t get enough!

Join us as we dive into this cultural trend with a brief history on why sea shanties exist, going over the basic structure of a good sea shanty, listening to a couple of examples, and followed by an opportunity for you to come up with your own sea shanty.

John Fox, reference desk tech, at the Morgantown Public Library will be leading the session. He leads every month’s Teen Writing Workshop and coordinates the BookDash program, which delivers library materials to homebound patrons. When he’s not writing fan fiction or working on his short story collection, he can usually be found buried in some horror and sci-fi book. He graduated from WVU with degrees in History and English.
