Brag tags can be earned for any kind of reading progress. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Visit a book trail and share a photo on social media or staff;
  • read and log your books;
  • read a book on a specific animal;
  • tell library staff a cool animal fact;
  • or, just come into the library!

Book Trail at the Core Arboretum (Grades K-5)

Dates and Time: June 1st – June 15th

Location: Core Arboretum (book trail starts at the parking lot)

Read “We’re Going on a Nature Hunt” by Steve Metzger while you explore the outdoors. The book will be displayed page by page on pop-up board stations.

 

Tails & Tales Story Time (Ages 3-7)

Dates and Time: June 9, 16, 23, 30 | July 7, 14 at 10:00 am

Location: West Virginia Botanic Gardens (on the event lawn)

Join Ms. Colleen each week in June and July for outdoor garden storytimes at the West Virginia Botanic Gardens. You’ll hear stories and participate in activities surrounding the theme for that day with a take-home kit. Questions? Cat Craft Takeaway Kit (Grade K-5)

Pickup Dates: June 7-13

Location: All Branch Locations

Visit your local MPLS library branch to pick up your cat craft kit including, materials, instructions, as well as recommended reads related to that week’s theme: cats. Supplies limited.

 

Animal Friend Read Aloud Challenge (Grade K-5)

Dates: June 7 – June 14

Location: Virtual

Take a picture of you reading to your favorite animal friend (pets and stuffed animals are acceptable) to Charlotte at charlotte.chung@mympls.org and earn a summer reading program brag tag!

 

Bird Walk (Grades K-5 & their Families)

Date: June 26th

Location: Core Arboretum

Join Mountaineer Audubon for a guided bird walk on the rail trail! You will learn to identify birds and your guides will provide an introduction to the art of birding! We’ll meet at 10am at the Core Arboretum in the parking lot. Reserve your spot: https://bit.ly/3fe9sxB

 

Dog Craft Takeaway Kit (Grade K-5)

Dates: June 14 – June 20

Location: All Branch Locations

Stop by any Morgantown Public Library branch location to pick up TWO dog crafts: a paper plate craft and a dachshund construction paper craft. All kits contain craft materials, instructions, as well as recommended reads related to dogs. Supplies limited.

 

Owl Craft Takeaway Kit (Grade K-5)

Dates: June 21 – June 27

Location: All Branch Locations

Stop by any Morgantown Public Library System branch location to pick up your owl craft kit. You’ll create a wide-eyed owl made of tissue paper. All kits contain craft materials, instructions, as well as owl recommended reads. Supplies limited.

 

Cardinal Craft Takeaway Kit (Grade K-5)

Dates: June 28 – July 4

Location: All Branch Locations

Stop by any Morgantown Public Library System branch location to pick up a cardinal craft kit. These hand-shaped paper cardinals have red feathers that give a 3D effect to your bird! All kits contain craft materials, instructions, as well as owl recommended reads. Supplies limited.

 

Blueberry Book Trail (Grade K-5)

Dates: July 1 – July 31

Location: Sterns Berry Farm | 340 Old Sawmill Rd, Morgantown, WV 26508

Read while you munch on blueberries! “Blueberry Shoe” by Ann Dixon will be displayed page by page on pop-up board stations in the berry farm.

 

Dog Park Book Trail (Grade K-5)

Dates: July 5-17

Location: Krepp’s Park Dog Park Trail

“Pig the Slob” by Aaron Blabey will be displayed page by page on pop-up board stations along the Dog Park Trail.

 

Penguin Craft Takeaway Kit (Grade K-5)

Dates: July 5 – July 11

Location: All Branch Locations

Stop by any Morgantown Public Library System branch location to pick up a penguin craft kit. Included is everything you need to make a penguin out of wooden sticks–including paint and pom poms for the penguin’s little feet as well as recommended penguin books! Supplies limited.

 

Tails & Tales Stuffed Animal Slumber Party (Grade K-5)

Dates: July 8 – July 12

Location: Morgantown Public Library (downtown location) and Cheat Area Public Library

Your stuffed animal reading buddy is invited to stay overnight at the library! Register online and then drop off your stuffed animal at any Morgantown Public Library branch location between July 8 – July 10. Throughout the weekend, you’ll receive Facebook updates on what your stuffed animal has been up to in the library with a virtual read-aloud that you can join! Elephant and Piggie Takeaway Craft Kit (Grade K-5)

Dates: July 12 – July 18

Location: All Branch Locations

Do you love Mo Willems’ “Elephant and Piggie” as much as we do? Do you love adorable animal puppets? If you said yes to either question, stop by any Morgantown Public Library System branch location to pick up your own Elephant and Piggie craft kit! Included is everything you need to make Piggie and Elephant puppets out of paper bags as well as recommended books. Supplies limited.

 

Duck Book Trail (Grade K-5)

Dates: July 18 – July 31

Location: White Park

“Duck on a Bike” by David Shannon will be displayed page by page on pop-up board stations along the White Park Trail.
